Such a Fun Week!

Okay, so I've been neglecting my blog a little bit, but I have a very good reason why! This past Thursday, my preschoolers cheered at half-time of a basketball game. We spent most of the week practicing and getting ready for it. Let me tell ya', it was totally worth the effort! The students were so excited to perform for the community. The girls got to wear bows in their hair and hold pom-poms, and the boys did a little bit of stunting. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen! Our (me and my board, that is) goal was to have more people notice our preschool. After some pretty heavy drama with our preschool last summer, we have been working hard to show the community that it is still a great place for kids. I think we accomplished our goal with this event. The students got some quality gross motor skills practice, and we were out in the community. What a great time.

Also, we spent this week gearing up for Valentine's day. We're delivering singing valentines throughout the community on Monday and Tuesday, and the students are super excited about it. We'll be headed all over town to sing songs and deliver a preschooler-made valentine and fresh flowers. This is another of our attempts to show the community our preschool is a good place for kids. We talked a lot about how we are being the salt and the light of the world by delivering these valentines, and the students are excited to bring smiles to our friends in town. I'm excited for this adventure.

With all the craziness of cheer practice, the game, and preparing for singing valentines, it seems like our study has been pushed to the side a little. We've started a study on food, nutrition, and health. This week we talked about dental health. The students got very excited to talk about cavities and how we can prevent them. We wrote and illustrated many stories about sugar bugs this week. Plus, I got to read one of my absolute favorite read alouds - Sweet Tooth by Margie Palatini. It's hilarious!

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate with kids, and I'm really looking forward to it this year.

Meet the Teacher

Cara at The First Grade Parade is doing a Meet the Teacher linking game, and I've decided to participate. Hope you enjoy!

Bio:

I teach preschool and I'm loving every minute of it. Being a teacher is a significant part of who I am, and it is difficult to leave school at school. This blog is my way of getting that all out of my system, so my poor husband doesn't have to listen to it all. I still talk his ear off frequently, though.

The above picture is one of our engagement pictures. We got married on November 6, and it was wonderful. We have been together since our junior year of high school. (That's six years for those of you who are counting.) I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have him. He is my rock, and I love him more each day. I'm greatly looking forward to starting a family with him.

Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t a teacher?

A: I'm not sure what I would be doing if I wasn't a teacher. Maybe something in the health care field. I've always been fascinated with the human body.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I love, love, love to read. I also enjoy sewing and cooking.

Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: When I was really little, I wanted to be a teacher. I went through a phase in high school where I wanted to be a business owner - specifically coffee shop owner - and then when I wanted to be an anesthesiologist.

Q: What are your guilty pleasures?
A: Recently, I've been spending way too much time watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix and reading teacher blogs.

Q: What is your biggest fear?!
A: Hmmm...snakes and, though I hate to admit it, losing the approval of my loved ones

Q: When you’re on vacation, where do you like to go?
A: My husband and I recently honeymooned in Maui and it was pure bliss! I could not have been happier.

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
A: Nothing is really popping into my mind right now. Maybe my mom's advice to stand up for myself from the beginning.

Q: What do you value most in others?
A: Loyalty and respectfulness

Q: If you could choose one of your personality traits to pass down to your kids, what would it be?
A: My calm demeanor. I like that I can handle any situation without a dramatic amount of emotion.

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone in the world….living or dead…who would it be?
A: Honestly, right now, I'd love to have lunch with my three best friends. I haven't seen them since my wedding, and I miss them.

Now tell us one random thing about yourself:
When I was little - first grade, I think - I was hanging out at my neighbor's house with my brothers. They had this really cool weeping willow tree, and I thought it was a good idea to hang on one of the branches. It ended up breaking off and falling on my face. I had a huge, bleeding gash under my eye. I ran home and told my parents my younger brother did it. I don't think they punished him and I don't know why I didn't just tell the truth. It only recently came out that I was in fact the one who was hanging from that tree.
